Troop 43's Newest Eagle
Hello everyone, I had the honor of sitting on the board for JP Menard's Eagle BOR Tues night, November 29. Brad Lange was his advocate, and I am sure Brad would agree, JP did a fantastic job. Speaking for the others on the board, JP was very composed and gave honest and insightful answers to all of our questions. Most of the young men I've see come through don't have the confidence that JP displayed. He will make a wonderful addition to Troop 43's as well as "All" of the Eagles before him. Congratulations to JP and his family. Please take a moment to shake his hand when you have a chance.

Camporee 2011
Well, Camporee is over for another year. I want to thank the adults that drove out and returned the scouts. Without you, we could not have attended Camporee this year.

The scouts said they all had fun and there were no problems that we couldn't resolve. We didn't place in any of the events (which isn't surprising since they never tell you what the events are ahead of time), but our scouts were the only patrol to not set of the warning lights when crawling under the ropes in the blind obstacle course. And we ended up not getting a fire ring, so the foil dinners turned into hamburger stew. Everyone said how good it was and there was hardly any left over.

On another note, the trailer is in need of attention. There were 2 cook kit bins, but we couldn't make a full cook kit with the stuff from either of them. There was no dish soap or towels in them either. The few tents that were there either had extra poles or had parts missing. The food bins have enough crackers to last till the next millenium and there were no paper towles. And what happened to the tent ground cloths and the wooden tables? Hopefully when the new trailer is fitted, it will be restored to the way it should be.

Lastly, I want to thank you for allowing me to head up this campout. I always enjoy spending time with scouts, but my current schedule doesn't allow for it very often. I had a great time and will see you the next time I can.

Newest Eagles in America
Good evening.
I would like to be the first to congratulate Cory Adair and his family and Nate Wells and his family. As of 7:17pm Cory Adair and 8:35pm Nate Wells are the newest Eagle Scouts in America. I had the honor of being the advocate for both of them. They both did a wonderful job in their BOR's. The board was very complimentary on how they answered questions. If you have the chance to see or email them, please congratulate them on their accomplishment. They both worked very hard and deserve all the praise. Congrats again Adair's and Wells'!!

Troop Service Project
Since Cory Adair has had to cancel his Eagle project this weekend, the Leaders of Troop 43 have decided to have an official Troop service project to support flood relief efforts.

All Scouters are asked to meet at the Davenport Public works building on 1200 East 46th Street this Saturday at 9 AM. The entrance to the sandbagging area is off Tremont Street, just north of 46th Street.

Plan to give at least 2 hours of service, helping to fill sandbags.

Wear your Class B uniforms and dress appropriately. Shoes covering toes are required. Work gloves and safety glasses are suggested, but these will be provided for volunteers who need them.

Scout parents may be required to sign a release form for their son(s) so please plan to take care of this when you arrive. (We will try to confirm this)

Scouts are responsible for their own transportation. If this time does not work for you, there are opportunities every day this week from 8 - 5.

Let's try and get 100% participation as we remember the part of our oath “to help other people at all times”

Newest Eagle Scout
I would like to congratulate Troop 43’s newest Eagle Scout Joe Bierl. Joe successfully completed his Eagle board of review on Tuesday February 15, 2011. It was my first time at a Eagle board of review so I was not sure what to expect. I thought Joe did an excellent job answering all the questions. I have worked with Joe since he was a Cub scout. He has come a long way from a young boy coming to this country all the way to Eagle Scout. When you see Joe offer him your congratulations, he did a great job.
